The Gucci brand was founded on March 26, 1881 in Florence, northern Italy. Son of an artisan of humble origins, who was keenly interested in luxury suitcases with noble family crests while working as an elevator operator, luggage carrier and later maître d' at London's famous and exquisite Savoy hotel at the turn of the 19th century. Later in 1921 after on his return to the city of Florence, he opened a small shop with his savings - 30,000 lire at the time - whose aim was to sell travel accessories. And it didn't take long for the upper bourgeoisie and the Florentine nobility to recognize the excellence and originality of the products and in a short time, the brand surpassed the city limits, establishing itself as one of the best known and preferred among the Italian elite. But it was only in 1979 that Gucci began selling its perfumes.

On February 7, 2019, the brand removed from all its stores a sweater that received many criticisms and accusations of racism. The piece was black with a high collar that went up to the height of the nose, and around the mouth there was a cutout simulating red lips. Many associated the play to the practice of “blackface” and to a character in a children's book considered the most racist in history, called “The adventures of little Black Sambo”.
