Giorgio Armani (born July 11, 1934) is an Italian fashion designer, especially known for his menswear. He formed his company in 1975, and in 2001 was hailed as Italy's most successful designer, with an annual factoring of $1.6 billion, and a personal fortune of $5 billion. Armani now employs around 4,700 people and has 13 factories around the world. It has around 300 stores in 36 countries. Recently, the house started a haute couture operation, showing in Paris, during the Haute Couture fashion week, under the name Armani Privé. Unlike much of the fashion industry, which is run by multi-nationals like LVMH and relies heavily on licensing, Armani owns its own brands and produces most of its products in its factories.
