History

The Prada story begins in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino under the name Prada Brothers (in Italian, Fratelli Prada). It began its commercial activity through the exclusive design and manufacture of luxury accessories, such as suitcases and handbags, in sophisticated leather and leather, in addition to other high quality materials. It has gained notoriety over the decades for its luxury products. As early as 1919, the store located in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II became the favorite place of Italian royalty and European aristocracy, who sought products full of elegance and sophistication. At the time, they didn't allow the women of the family to get involved in the business, but, ironically, it was Mario's daughter, Luisa Prada, who ran the store for nearly 20 years. In 1978, the granddaughter of one of the founders, Miuccia Prada, together with her future husband Patrizio Bertelli, took over the company, which had already lost much of its luster, and started to create more innovative and contemporary products. PRADA's rise as a luxury brand took place in the early 1980s, with the launch of a black bag with basic lines. The accessory has become a rage among actresses and celebrities, taking the brand name to a wider audience, full of glamour. Shortly after, in 1983, the company opened a second store also in Milan. This new store represented a new image of the brand, combining traditional elements with modern architecture, in addition to introducing a straw-green color in its decoration. it would become, in the years to come, a standard symbol of its stores.
