The Beauty Blender sponge has an open cell structure which fills with small amounts of water when wet. This allows the sponge to be filled so that the makeup product is on top of the sponge instead of being absorbed, allowing to use less product at a time. When wet, this sponge doubles in size and becomes even smoother, returning to its original size when dry.
